Born in Flint, Michigan, self-taught artists Marcia and Bill Finks, create sophisticated, yet simple, primitive figures from rusted steel. After working at Sears for 21 years, Bill lost his job. With little opportunities in Flint, (with General Motors shutdowns)in 1989, Marcia and Bill found work for themselves. By tearing down old tin barn roofs scattered along Michigan countryside, little did they know that their work would be nationally recognized within a year. Ten years later, they have remained true to their vision by keeping their art simple and hand crafted. Each piece is still hand cut and painted by Marcia and Bill with a family of local artists keeping up with their vast production. They started painting and cutting metal in their dining room in 1989 and have since built a studio on their Fenton, Michigan compound.
